San Juan bonfire festival

Every year at midnight on June 23rd, the shortest night of the year, Tenerife celebrates the arrival of summer and new beginnings. The night of San Juan or “La noche de San Juan” is all about bonfires, beach parties, fireworks and tons of wishes. These are the key elements that make the magical night of 23 June so special. If you were in Tenerife on that day, celebrate it along with the locals.
The fires are the major component of the celebrations and they represent two things: the most important source of energy, the Sun, and they are reviewed as a symbol for the redemption of old sins. The ancient tradition is to jump over the bonfires so those sins could be forgiven.

There are several superstitions regarding this magical night. It is believed that when the sun lightens the dawn of the 24th of June, the waters of the ocean are enriched with special powers to heal everyone swimming in them who will be protected from any kind of harm in the following year.
If you want to forget someone, you have to write their name on a piece of paper and burn it in the flames.
If you’re single, you will see the love of your life passing by if you watch through the window of your house in the early hours of the 24th of June.
If you get up quite early on the morning of the 24th of June, you won’t be tired for the entire year.

If you happen to be staying in one of our villas during San Juan night, just go down to the beach and experience that night as never before. The town hall normally throws a big show on the Fañabe beach, within walking distance from Habitats Del Duque complex.
