Wine & Food-The Reveron vineyard

Wine tasting! What a great idea, right? It’s time to acknowledge that Tenerife has much more to offer than just beaches and pubs. A local wine tasting is all you need on a day when you fancy doing something different.

First, some history so you can get thirsty for some local vino.
Europeans brought the fruit of the vine to the island in the XV century. We know that the first vineyard in Tenerife was planted by the Portuguese Fernando de Castro, in the year 1,497.

In recent years, winemaking in the municipality of Arona has increased enormously. Thanks to its climate and altitude it is a perfect place to obtain high-quality wines.

The highest vineyard in Europe is located in the municipality’s heart of Vilaflor, reaching an altitude of 1,600 meters. Black lands define this area. The cultivation is done by combining grapes grown at very different altitudes this makes it of such high quality.

Today I will take you to Bodega Reveron in Villaflor, Arona. The municipality, famous for its vineyards, will exceed your expectations. The day was sunny and warm, our bodies and souls completely ready to savour some local vino and tapas. The owners were amazing and extremely friendly. The tour itself was quick and yet interesting, explaining the history of wines in Tenerife and the story of the family that owns it.

The desired wine tasting has finally arrived. They invited us to the restaurant and welcomed with some bread and mojo sauce, olives, chorizo, and blended goat and sheep’s cheese.
Donna and Diego were very passionate and knowledgeable about the wine they produce. Generous with the samples, they were very gracious to us. The fruity rose was especially delicious. It was refreshing to have a hearty snack, with friendly hosts offering their elegant wine and tapas.
